Making our CFCs safer

I started as a casual at the customer fulfillment centre (CFC) in Laverton, and became permanent team member in March 2014. I had left my previous employment as a safety and compliance manager with another large company and had decided to complete my Diploma in OHS. When the operations manager at Laverton found out about my employment history, he asked me if I was interested in being the safety coordinator for the CFC and of course, I said yes!
I’m currently working as a coordinator in the operations centre at Laverton. As we’ve implemented new Voicepick technology at the site, and I have previous experience with the technology, it was a great next step in my career.
The thing I love most about Officeworks is that even though it is a large company, it still has that family feel about it. This is totally different from the previous sites I have worked at. One of the best aspects of the role is that you’re acknowledged for the work you do. I received a milestone pin for implementing numerous safety processes and procedures at the site, and it felt really great to be recognised for the hard work.
The biggest change I’ve seen at our CFC site during my time here is the increased number of team members on site. When I first started there was less than a hundred, now we have reached near the 200 mark!
For me the biggest highlight was reaching my five year mark. I had initially planned to be with Officeworks for only a year or two. Once I had completed implementing the safety programs and procedures, I was hoping to go elsewhere. However, I loved working within Officeworks so much that I stayed on. The feeling of being able to come to work excited and eager, kept me going. I was happy working with good people and felt part of a team.
