It’s one of the most important pieces in your gaming setup, but, as tech reviewer Elly Awesome discovers, you definitely don’t need to spend a fortune to get your fingertips on a stylish, sturdy RGB keyboard. In fact, if you’re in the market for a new gaming keyboard, you should check out the Typhoon Mechanical Keyboard Pro MK12. She takes it out of the box and plugs it in for a test run.
First Impressions
The Typhoon Pro MK12 is a mechanical gaming keyboard, with a couple of very cool features. It’s got RGB lighting, anti-ghosting keys (they give your keyboard the ability to respond to multiple keys at once with no issues), blue mechanical switches, and an aluminium top.
It’s a sturdy, good-looking gaming keyboard that comes with a long 1.5-metre cable. The only other thing in the box is the instruction manual.
A Closer Look
This RGB keyboard has dedicated media buttons that allow you to play, pause, and back and forward skip. There’s also a sizeable volume dial. The base of the keyboard has two rubber feet as well as two legs that allow you to adjust the tilt on the keyboard.
Plug and Play Capability
What’s particularly handy about this gaming keyboard is you can plug and play – as soon as you plug it into a Mac or PC it should immediately just work, or at least run through a set-up to get it ready to go.
There’s also the option to download customisable drivers that will allow you to set up your own keybinds. This allows you to ‘bind’ together specific keys with certain actions or skills in the games you’re playing. It’s a way of optimising your game play by customising your controls. One thing to note, however, is that if you have a Mac, you won’t be able to set up custom keybinds with this keyboard. All the instructions for setting up keybinds are in the manual, under Advanced Driver Features.

Sound and Lighting
First of all, this is a really clicky keyboard, which might take a little getting used to if you prefer a quieter sound.
The RGB on this mechanical keyboard is awesome though. There’s a single button that turns off the lights beneath the keys, however it does leave on the accent LED strip around the edges of the keyboard. The same button also activates different animation techniques on the keyboard. There are no effects when you’re typing, but the lighting continues to dance around the keyboard. It’s a really cool effect.
Pressing the volume dial also changes the colour of the accent lighting. You can even change it to a multicoloured rainbow effect.
The Verdict
You’ll be pretty happy if you add this Typhoon mechanical keyboard to your gaming setup. It’s easy to use and it looks great. In all, there are 12 different light modes you can activate, and the keyboard comes with a three-year warranty. But perhaps the best part is that this RGB keyboard only costs $59, making it an affordable way to upgrade your gaming setup.
