I’ve been getting Instagram messages from people offering influencer deals. What are indicators of Instagram scams?
Check out the sender’s profile to see if it’s an active account, or only has a few posts. A Google search often reveals scams but, as a general rule, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Never give out personal details to unsolicited requests on social media or emails. Block the sender to prevent future requests.
What is my IP address, how do I find it and what do I need to know?
The physical mail delivery network requires a physical mailing address to correctly send and receive physical letters and parcels. It’s the same for the internet. An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique address assigned to your modem/router or device so that your device is able to correctly request for, send and receive internet data. In most cases, unlike your physical address, you don’t really need to know your IP address as this address is automatically assigned to you by your Internet Service Provider or local router and can change on a regular basis.

My earphones have a IP57 rating. What does this mean?
This rating is to do with how well your tech is protected from dust and water (aka is it dust and waterproof). The first number (in this instance, the 5) relates to protection from solids, like dust, and the second number (the 7) relates to liquids protection. An IP57 rating means the earphones are dust-resistant, so less likely for the sensitive parts to be damaged by dust, and can withstand immersion in water up to one metre for up to 30 minutes. That said, it’s not recommended that you dunk your precious earphones into water to test it out!

Why is backing up data so important?
Many users don’t realise the importance of data backup until it’s too late. Most devices now have a built-in online cloud backup solution but you can increase your storage quote with an annual or monthly subscription. It will cost you, but it’s certainly recommended so you don’t run the risk of losing precious photos should something happen to your mobile device or computer.

Can a tablet replace a laptop?
It depends on what you need it for. The processing capabilities and apps available on today’s tablets make it very possible to have your tablet as your main device. If you find that you’re no longer creating large amounts of content like documents, spreadsheets or lengthy emails, then the portability and ease of use of a tablet may be the way to go.
