The key features to consider when deciding on a gaming headset are microphone quality, surround sound, headset size and comfort, and RGB effects, and that’s where tech expert and reviewer Elly Awesome can help. So, how do the Typhoon Pro Gaming Headset’s features stack up? Read Elly’s review to find out…
First Impressions: It’s Simple and Sleek Design
This gaming headset is plug and play via a regular USB, so you simply plug it into your Mac or PC and it’s good to go. When you plug the headset in, the RGB lights up immediately. There’s rainbow lighting on the side and a light on the microphone. So let’s try it on!
Headset Size Is on the Larger Side
Size-wise, the Typhoon Gaming Headset is pretty big for me. But it’s fairly comfortable – it sits completely over my ears, so it’s all-encapsulating. I think if someone was calling me from the other room, I probably wouldn’t hear them, especially if I’m gaming.Â
It gives me a little bit of inward pressure on the sides of my cheeks, but it is adjustable, so you can make the headphones strap longer for a larger head, but no shorter than how it comes out of the box. For me, it’s a little on the larger side, but for an adult or a large teenager, the size would probably be better. Just because of the large size of the headset, I wouldn’t recommend it for a young child.

Handy Controller to Toggle RGB Effects
The RGB is definitely a nice touch on this gaming headset. You can use the controller to toggle through a few different colours. There’s also a ‘breathing’ effect which slowly rotates through the colours. The controller also features a volume slider to adjust the in-ear audio and, of course, a mute button.Â
If you press the mute button, the light on the microphone goes out, so you’ll know your microphone is on when it’s glowing. Sometimes this can be a bit of a distraction in the dark when gaming, but the light is particularly dim, so it’s not going to be too distracting. It’s actually going to be helpful because out of the corner of your eye, you really know whether you’re on mute or not, which is a very important feature.
Clear and Crisp Microphone Quality
So, how does the mic sound to your teammates? In my opinion, the audio sounds really crisp. You get a couple of mic pops here and there – I don’t think it has an in-built mic pop filter – but, for the most part, it sounds really good when you’re gaming. It definitely doesn’t sound muffled or low quality.Â

Surround Stereo Sound
Aside from the great microphone quality, you’ll be pleased to know that the audio quality on this gaming headset is also quite impressive. It has 7.1 surround stereo sound, which means you can hear sound all around your ears. So you can hear things coming from the bottom left or the top right of your ears, and it’s really pleasing. It’s well balanced and it has some nice bass.Â
Super Flexible Microphone
The microphone is really flexible. This is super handy because if you need it to be further away from your mouth, or you need to adjust it due to volume, or if you’re a really loud gamer, you can adjust it any way you like. It’s a really versatile microphone.
The Verdict
Overall, the Typhoon Gaming Headset is a comfortable, user-friendly, plug and play gaming headset. The great quality microphone and sound make it the perfect headset for both new and seasoned gamers, and the awesome RGB effects are an added bonus.
