Whether you intend to spend hours gaming or are looking for smart equipment that can serve double duty as a work-from-home station during the week and a gaming setup on the weekend, a great gaming desk and chair should be part of your basic kit. We asked tech expert, reviewer, TV presenter and videographer Elly Awesome to test out the Typhoon Prime Gaming Chair and Typhoon Elite Gaming Desk from unboxing the pair to getting ready to game.
Out of the Box
There’s no getting around it, you’ll have to put these pieces together after you’ve bought them. The chair is easy enough to build on your own, but it would help to have an extra pair of hands when putting the gaming desk together. Nearly everything comes in the box, including allen keys (for assembly), but you will need a Phillips-head screwdriver for the desk.
Putting Together the Gaming Chair
Talk about a simple operation. All up, it should take about 30 minutes to put together. You place the wheels into the base, then set the back into the base of the chair. Once that’s screwed in, you can install the main mechanism of the chair. That’s almost all there is to it. Suddenly, you’re ready to test out your new gaming chair.

Building the Gaming Desk
The components of the gaming desk are heavy and it’s certainly going to make life a lot easier if you ask someone to give you a hand putting it together. That said, the instructions are easy to follow. All you need to do is install the beams, a cable management cage, the legs, a cup holder and a headphone holder. If you do need any extra assistance, there are how-to-assemble videos on the product pages.
The Chair Is Fully Adjustable
Once you’ve got your pieces together, it’s time to check them out. The Typhoon Prime Gaming Chair is sleek, good-looking and will fit into any gaming setup. In fact, with its grey and black design, it’d also look right at home in any office or studio situation.
One of the main selling points of this chair is its ability to be customised, especially considering its affordable price point. The armrests move forwards and backwards, up and down and can be angled to the left and right.Â
Of course, you can adjust the height of the chair, as well as the tilt of the chair itself. The backrest is also adjustable, although it doesn’t go back as far as some of the premium gaming chairs I’ve seen. For the price point, though, this is an excellent chair.

The Desk Has Some Surprising Extras
Something you might like is the Typhoon Elite Gaming Desk’s built-in RGB lighting, which is powered by USB. Really, though, this customisation is just a fun bonus that allows you to choose from many different static and flashing light colours.
Most people would be impressed by the cup holder, but it’s the cable management that should get more attention. You can put all your cables into it – maybe even a power board or power brick – and keep your office space tidy.
With its slick, carbon-fibre-look desktop, this desk is a piece of gaming equipment you could easily install in any room in the house.
