Derivan Matisse Gesso allows you to prime surfaces such as canvas, board and paper for paints and other mediums. The gesso is an intense white colour with an excellent tooth, making it easy to move and manipulate paints. It creates a primed and suitable surface for acrylic or oil paints.

It has an excellent tooth for easy paint manipulation.
This gesso is water-based and can be thinned with water for use with raw canvas or linen.
The gesso will also tighten canvas material, giving you a firmer surface to paint on.
It creates a surface suitable for use with acrylic or oil paints.
For acrylics, two coats are recommended; for oils, it is recommended to seal the surface with MM5 Matt Medium or MM12 Clear Sealer then apply a minimum of 3 coats.
It is recommended to apply with a spatula or a blade to canvas surfaces.
Application method may affect the tooth.
Coats of gesso take 1 – 3 hours to dry, depending on weather conditions.
Matisse Background Colours are also a highly pigmented "low tooth" gesso for use when a coloured background is required.
